Prevent Hearing Loss

Hearing Loss

Prevention

Whether you have normal hearing today, or you’re already suffered from hearing loss, there are things we can do to minimize our risk for greater hearing problems in the future.

Protect Your Hearing from Noise-Induced Hearing Loss

Exposure to loud noises is actually the main cause for hearing loss and it is 100% preventable.

Tips to Reduce Noise Damage and Keep Your Hearing Healthy

  • If you work in an occupation with high noise level, check with your employer to ensure you have adequately protected your hearing according to OH&S regulations.
  • Wear ear protections like earplugs or earmuffs when using loud equipment (angle grinder, lawn mower, chainsaw etc.) or when involved in noisy recreational activities (concerts, sporting events, etc.).
  • Reduce the volume on the computer, TV, radio, personal music players etc. at home.
  • Buy quieter products (loud equipments) by comparing their dB (decibel) ratings.
  • Reduce the number of noisy appliances running simultaneously in your surrounding.

When you avoid dealing with loud noises, your ears can go a really long way.

Avoid Cotton Buds — Let Your Ears Do the Cleaning Naturally

Earwax plays an important role in protecting and maintaining ear health. However, many people make the mistake of using cotton buds, hairpins, or other sharp objects to remove earwax — which can actually cause more harm than good.

Inserting objects into your ear canal can push wax deeper, irritate the skin, or even damage the delicate structures inside the ear, leading to pain, infection, or hearing loss.

Safe Earwax Removal Tips from Our Hearing Care Experts

In most cases, your ears are self-cleaning. When you shower or wash your hair, small amounts of water naturally help loosen earwax, which then works its way out on its own.

If you experience discomfort, blocked ears, or reduced hearing, it’s best to have your ears examined and cleaned professionally using safe microsuction techniques at our clinic.

Early Detection Helps Protect Your Hearing Health

Many people don’t realise they have hearing loss because it often develops gradually over time. You might find yourself turning up the TV or asking others to repeat themselves without noticing the change. However, it’s not as easy for family and friends to keep raising their voices.

Why Regular Hearing Tests Are Important

It’s recommended to have your hearing checked every year. Regular hearing assessments help your audiologist detect early signs of hearing loss and take steps to prevent further decline.

If you’re uncertain about your hearing or have noticed subtle changes, book a hearing test with us today for peace of mind.

Dear Shuey, I am writing to you to thank you for your excellent service and understanding. As you know, my hearing loss (even with my previous Government-provided hearing aids) was deteriorating over a number of years. My previous audiologist advise me that he could not adjust my hearing aids any louder. So I went to get a review of my hearing at your Warrandyte clinic. Much to my delight, I was fitted with new hearing aids and with your expertise and guidance, my hearing capacity improved dramatically. Thanks again for your kindness and understanding.

I have put off having a hearing test for a long while knowing that I do have hearing loss due to working in engine rooms on ships, oil rigs, trawlers etc for many years. I was having trouble hearing the TV and discussion in meetings at work when in a large room. I had always thought that the loudness of TV & meetings are okay but could not make out the words. I guess I was reluctant to admit that I needed help and, at my age, not keen to be wearing hearing aids. After testing and looking at the options, I have chosen ITE (In-the-ear) hearing aids and I am very happy with them. I have to remember to take them out when having shower or going to bed as they are so comfortable I forget I am wearing them. I would recommend Ivory Hearing to any prospective hearing aid buyer for excellent pressure-free, friendly advice & service!
