The Diabetes-Hearing Loss Connection

This week is National Diabetes Week. According to various research studies, people with diabetes were more than twice as likely as to develop hearing loss.

Similar to the way diabetes damage our eyes and the kidneys, the high blood glucose levels associated with diabetes could cause damage to the tiny blood vessels in our inner ear. This would interfere with our ear functions and hearing ability.

So, if you have diabetes, it is definitely a good idea to have a hearing test as soon as possible, regardless of whether you think you have hearing loss or not.

If hearing loss is not detected, you can get beneficial advice from our caring audiologist. Early intervention could help you reduce the risk and preserve your hearing. If the test result shows that you have hearing loss, you will find out about the type and extent of your hearing loss, and the appropriate treatment to prevent further complications.

Please feel free to contact us to discuss about your hearing.
