If you are a pensioner or a veteran and are experiencing hearing loss, then here’s a good news. You might be eligible to receive subsidised hearing aids and hearing services for pensioners and veterans.

Australians are lucky to benefit from a progressive hearing services programs. Our government understand the burden of hearing loss and understand the need for everyone to access better hearing. As a result, Office of Hearing Services (OHS) Voucher Scheme was established. This is to ensure that pensioners and veterans can access subsidised hearing services and hearing aids through an accredited hearing care providers like Ivory Hearing.

Background

Australians are living longer than ever and are enjoying a better quality of life. The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that the number of people over 65 has tripled in past fifty years. The number of people over the 85 has also increased significantly. While many pensioners are relatively healthy, some do suffer from minor problems in areas like hearing, oral health, vision and more.

According to the ABS, 1 in 6 Australians are experiencing hearing issues. By the time they reach their sixties, over 50 percent of all Australians will have experienced some degree of hearing loss.

Subsidised hearing services

Do you know that when someone has hearing loss, it takes an average of 7 years to take action? To encourage more people to be aware of their hearing health, eligible pensioners and veterans can get their full hearing assessment free of charge.

If any hearing loss is detected, and hearing aids amplification is deemed beneficial for hearing and communication, Office of Hearing Services (OHS) Voucher Scheme will fully or partially subsidise the hearing aids purchase.
